No Such Thing As An 8MM Mauser Rifle

Just returned from a gunshow, where I was looking for some 11MM ammo for my odd ball rifle.  I spoke to all the ammo dealers there and the topic migrated to 8MM Mausers.  4 of the 4 ammo dealers told me that there was no such thing as an 8mm Mauser Rifle ever produced.  I was surprised to learn of that.  The way it was explained to me was that the German's produced a rifle that shot 7.92mm cartridges.  This Mauser was commonly referred to as the 8mm Mauser.  Never would have guessed that to be true.

And while we are talking about conversions, were you really looking for 11mm ammo?  Since 11.5mm = .45 caliber, could that be the real number?   Just thinking out loud, Jim ...

Yes,  my 1871 black powder Stevens rifle made in Norway takes 11mm Beaumount ammo.  It is bolt action with a magazine.  The fixed magazine was a feature added by another nation after original production.   Interesting rifle. I just cannot find ammo for it.
