Earliest known C96 in 9mm?
« on: March 21, 2015, 05:05:46 AM »
Hello!

New to the forum; I actually registered just to ask specifically about the early "Red-9"s. James D Julia held an auction in late 2014 where they sold a  worn but decent 9mm C96, serial# 49 (http://jamesdjulia.com/item/1277-369/) with "...one of the lowest known SNs". What is the actual lowest number known? I have two that are lower than that, one is single digit, and it got me thinking: Is #1 or #2 known to exist somewhere? Any idea?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Serial number 1 was made but if it still exist is unknown to me. I have seen SN 9 on another forum. You do know that the Red-9s have their own serial number range? There are earlier C-96s in 9mm but your question seems to be specifically about the Red-9s.

Thanks for the input and welcome! I am in fact the owner of #9 and #46, which is kind of the reason I was asking.  :)
When you mention there are earlier C96s in 9mm but not Red-9s do you mean converted/modified pistols?

Thanks again!

No, There were some C96s that were chambered in 9mm Mauser and possibly even 9mm luger that pre-date the Red-9 contract. Your 2 are very nice. I saw your post on Still's forum.
