Paul Jaeger was a Master Gunsmith of German descent, born 1901 in NY, died in 1993. The N and crown are German Nitro Proofs. 2,67 g G.B.P means the proof load was 2,67 grams of GBP (Gewehr Blättchen Pulver rifle flake powder). St. m. G. means Stahlmantel Geschoss, steel jacket bullet - bullet weight should be just below but must have been polished out somewhere along the line. There may be some more proofs under the front scope base. It appears to be German, and a military action (thumb cut). Measure centerline to centerline of the guard screws - approx 7-7/8" is standard (30/06) length, and approx 7-5/8" is intermediate length (7X57, 8X57, 6.5X55, etc.).
