Magazine disassembly
« on: September 20, 2013, 08:35:34 PM »
The magazines for my Ortgies and Walther Modell 4 both have mag bases similar to the Mauser's, crimped in place. On the other two it is a straightforward matter to compress and hold the springs down and jiggle the follower out if the top of the mag. Does the Mauser disassemble in the same manner?  I've made two attempts and it seems to be a tighter fit than my other followers.

What's the magic?

Thanks.

If your magazine is the indented base it is very difficult to disassemble. The best method to clean is to put it in boiling water to remove gunk, then dry and oil. If it is a split or T-tail base, with magazing upside down lift up on T and push to the front to remove base. Then spring and follower are removed from bottom. Submersing in boiling water first will help to loosen up dirt and dried grease that may be present. Regards,

Yes, T tail.

Does the base slide towards the rear of the mag or towards the front?

I'm soaking it with Ballistol for a bit before attempting disassembly. I may try your boiling trick if it still won't come apart.

Thanks.

Yup, that was the charm. Ballistol softened the gunk and I finally got it off.

Thanks.
