1914 Spandau Mystery

Hello, folks!  I've recently acquired an unusual Mauser, stamped on the receiver with "7.9" (caliber), the Imperial Crown, "Spandau" and "1914". The proof marks aren't familiar to me, I'll show pix as I'm able. The stock, mag floor plate, and butt plate numbers and bolt aren't matching. You'll see what I mean, viz., the photos. I'm spinning my wheels trying to figure out the rifle's pedigree from what is shown vs what might be inferred from the date and available stamps. As I'm limited to four pictures, I'll send up those which seem to tell the abbreviated history.

I compared the eagles on the right side of the receiver and barrel to other Spandau production rifles and they look the same.  The "7.9" stamp is in that location as this is a Karabiner 98a and not a Gewehr 98.

Thank you, Dak, for the update. I was thinking, additionally, that the 300m to 2000m gradient rear sight markings may have had the '98a' flavor as well.
